New Electronic Event Management System introduced at the 2024 FAI F3F World Championship for Model Gliders

The 2024 FAI F3F World Championship for Model Gliders, currently underway in Limoux, France, has embraced innovation with the introduction of a cutting-edge electronic event management system that enhances the organisation and control of the competition. This technology aims to improve efficiency and accuracy in event operations.

Key Features and Benefits

  1. Weather Integration: The system incorporates real-time weather data, ensuring compliance with wind speed limits as defined in the F3F class rules.
  2. Performance Display: Utilises local web services to showcase each competitor's flight performance in real-time.
  3. Versatile Input Methods: Compatible with both traditional "wired" button inputs from base judges and advanced automatic detection devices like the picamtracker.
  4. User-Friendly Interface: Features a graphical user interface on an IPS color touchscreen for seamless event management.
  5. Automated Announcements: Provides vocal countdowns and final flight time announcements.
  6. Data Management: Automatically stores flight times and penalties in an integrated database.
  7. Live Rankings: Publishes real-time event rankings via a local web server, accessible on the slope's Wi-Fi network.
  8. Advanced Administration: Offers comprehensive F3F competition management tools through admin pages on the local web server.
  9. Data Compatibility: Supports import and export of event data to and from the Scoring System.

The brains behind this groundbreaking system are Joël Marin and Sylvain Daviet, two active aeromodellers and F3F competition participants from France. Their creation is an integrated, open-source solution that combines both hardware and software components. Detailed information about the system is available on GitHub.
