Air Sports and the Environment: FAI Young Artists Contest 2023 Theme

The FAI is calling upon youngsters to consider the theme of "Air sports and the environment" for the 2023 Young Artists Contest, asking them to express how they envisage the role of aviation in protecting our planet. 

The contest was first launched in 1986. In the recently-awarded 2022 competition, winners of the national contests from nine countries were entered into the finals. Winning artworks came from Japan, USA, Poland, China and Lithuania.

After two years of postponement, there are high hopes that the 17th FAI World Microlight Championships 2022 in Hosín, Czech Republic, will be a contest to remember. A welcoming atmosphere is of great importance to event organiser Jiří Nečas - pictured above - who wants to encourage newcomers to the sport with an international fly-in included at the event, where friends and family can participate and support their teams.

With The World Games 2022 just days away, some of the female pilots who will be competing took a moment to share their story with us… Jeannie Bartholemew (USA) and Robin Jandle (USA) are both canopy pilots, and Ting Yu (TPE) and Ryan Lindsay Lessard (USA) are competing the drone racing. Although these two air sports are very different, the pride, passion and sense of sisterhood involved are felt by pilots from both disciplines.

The 4th PGA Asian Championships launched in Kazakhstan

The 4th FAI Asian paragliding accuracy championship was opened on June 21st 2022. The competition has pilots from 9 Asian nations: Kazakhstan, South Korea, Mongolia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Iran, and  guest pilots from Serbia and the Czech Republic plus a team that flies under the FAI flag (pilots from Kyrgyzstan - a non-FAI member country). FAI is represented by Jury President Zeljko Ovuka (SRB), Jury members Jun Zhang (CNH) and Tuul Choqsomjav (MNG), and FAI Steward Riikka Vilkuna.
