News from Namwon: FAI World Drone Racing Championships 2023

The 2023 FAI World Drone Racing Championship officially began today with the Opening Ceremony during the afternoon of October 6th, in Namwon, Korea. 

All the teams registered for this event arrived yesterday or during the previous days and have had the opportunity to visit the area where the event will take place.

Preparing for a long-distance flight from Alberquerque: 66th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett

Right now in Alberquerque, USA, 17 teams from nine countries are settling into pre-race planning mode, prior to launching their gas balloons at the 66th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett, the oldest and most prestigious event in aviation.

In the fast-paced FAI Control Line Combat category, the two agile pilots inside a circular boundary weave around one another to keep their aircraft aloft and score points against their opponent. Quick-witted attack and defence tactics are deployed as the planes twist and turn in the sky. The pilots wear helmets for protection and the audience watches in safety from behind a high barrier.

5th FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship Cruises through flights 3-4-5-6

After a windy and rainy start caused cancellation of some early competition flight slots, the 5th FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship (WWHABC) has completed 4 flights in a row.  Competitors are racking up their points with 12 tasks flown from Tuesday afternoon to Friday morning.  As one of the local organizers said: “This is (more) normal weather for Northam" :  Sunny Skies and Cooperative Winds.

5th FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship in the Air for 2nd flight

After a rainy and windy start on the first day of Championship flight opportunities, the 5th FAI Women’s World Hot Air Balloon Championship (WWHABC) now has two flights in the books. The weather in Northam, Western Australia cooperated on Day 2, allowing the competitors to get into the air.
