For his eminent services to the international gliding community over many decades. Ian Strachan has spent a lifetime in aviation, during which, among many other notable services to the community, he has developed motor-glider instructional techniques, identified and published GPS-based turning points, and served for many years as an influential delegate to CIVV/IGC and CASI. Most recently, and of great importance, he has been the Chairman of the FAI Gliding Commission�s GNSS Flight Recorder Approval Committee since its inception, leading the process of evaluation and approval of many flight recorders, and ensuring systems validity and integrity for records, badges, contests and everyday flying. Through his dedication and attention to detail, Ian Strachan has greatly influenced the UK and international gliding and the FAI community as a whole.
Mr. Tor Johannessen has been a significant contributor to Gliding both in Norway and internationally since his international debut in the World Championships in Cologne in 1960. His involvement in gliding includes 30 years as a pilot, holder of many Norwegian records, instructor/examiner, chairman of the national gliding organisation, Norwegian delegate to the FAI Gliding Commission (IGC) and contributor to the revision and development of FAI Sporting Code, Section 3. Within IGC, Mr. Tor Johannessen has contributed to cost reducing measures in gliding competitions by participating in the � World Class � glider selection. Mr. Tor Johannessen is renowned and respected through his performance as a competition pilot, chief judge and World Meet Jury President, and as Vice President in the FAI Gliding Commission and his chairing of various IGC sub-committees.
