27 nations at the 2024 FAI World Championships in Style and Accuracy and Canopy Formation in Prostejov, Czechia

The brightly coloured flags of 27 nations were waved by skydivers and their teams participating at the 2024 FAI World Championships in Style and Accuracy and Canopy Formation in Prostejov, Czechia, on Saturday 31 August 2024, at the opening ceremony of the three major FAI competitions taking place there until 6 September:

  • 38th FAI World Style and Accuracy Landing Championships
  • 12th FAI Junior World Style and Accuracy Landing Championships
  • 21st FAI World Canopy Formation Championships

After a quiet morning, with FAI Officials checking systems and facilities, the afternoon gathered pace with the FAI Controller giving the go-ahead for the Opening Ceremony. Brazilian Samba dancers added more swirls of colour to the festivities, followed by official procedures.

Welcome speeches and good wishes to the athletes were proffered by Milos Sklenka, Deputy Mayor of Prostejov, who is a great supporter of skydiving in the area, and Roman Bradys, Deputy Vice President of the Czech National Sports Agency.

The Competitor’s Oath was read by a Czech skydiver, Michaela Mynarova, and the FAI Official’s oath was read by FAI Skydiving Commission (ISC) Finance Secretary, Natasha Higman, who also declared the three championships officially open. The Czech national anthem was played and the Czech flag hoisted, followed by the FAI anthem and the hoisting of the FAI flag.

The Team Leaders’ Meeting then took place and the schedules for jumping drawn. Over 300 athletes will compete in the three championship events, with seven days of jumps scheduled.
