Who's in the lead at the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship?
The spirit of teamwork lies at the heart of the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championships: the same five team members must achieve the best scores across the three disciplines of Accuracy Landing, Style and Formation Skydiving to win the team overall classification. As of Saturday afternoon, 6 July, the CISM overall women’s team results are showing China in the lead. Elbowing one another in joint second place are the Republic of Korea and Brazil. This feisty battle for second place is mirrored in the men’s overall team, with the leaders Czech Republic being jostled closely from behind the Republic of Korea with Germany just a point behind.
Team Brazil head to the heli feeling positive
Accuracy has been very tightly contested: after three rounds, there are six males tied for first place! These top performers are from Hungary, France, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland. Among the women, it is China who dominate after performing well in the first round and maintaining a substantial lead against Italy and France who are trailing behind.
In the women’s Style, Tatjana Gustke from Germany maintains her lead after the first two full rounds despite pressure from the Chinese team. Only one full round has been completed (at the time of writing) in the men’s and juniors, but two juniors stood out from the crowd, also ranking in the top ten seniors.
In 4-way Formation, Belgium’s male team are riding the wave of their Round Two success and leading the way, despite having come second to Qatar in round one, but the USA team are biting at their heels so it’s all to play for. In the women’s category, the Republic of Korea team had an excellent first round and have maintained a strong lead over the first five rounds despite conceding round two to team China.

As the competition headed into the weekend, athletes had some challenging conditions to contend with, with strong winds dictating the course of action and the Meet Director adjusting the schedule.
Winds need to stay below 11m/s to allow Style and Formation to go ahead and Accuracy must wait until winds are below 7m/s. But the winds have brought along a buzzing crowd of weekend supporters who have arrived to bring their energy to the competition and see these world class athletes perform for their nations.
