Romania welcomes the 2024 FAI F5J European Championships for Electric Powered Thermal Duration Gliders

The 2024 FAI F5J European Championships for Electric Powered Thermal Duration Gliders have officially kicked off in Deva, Romania, with senior and junior participants representing 23 countries.

Between 25-31 August, the F5J competition will take place on the well-known Deva airfield which is owned and operated by the Federatia Aeronautica Romana, which also hosts other air sports activities such as gliding, skydiving and aerobatics.

Two separate FAI F5J World Championship events are taking place, with male and female participants in both categories: 

Seniors - 63 competitors

Juniors - 16 competitors

    Opening Ceremony

    The Opening Ceremony, took place on Saturday 24 August at the airfield. Teams gathered together with their national flags, and after short speeches from the officials, the Jury President Mr. Andras REE declared the competition open. Following the Opening Ceremony, the Team Managers meeting took place in the Briefing Room of the airfield.  

    On Sunday 25th August, the model registration and process took place. 

    FAI Aeromodelling Commission (CIAM) President and Jury Member Antonis Papadopoulos declared:

    “I would like to welcome all the participants. It is going to be a very challenging competition with Preliminary and Final rounds taking place during the week. Weather is expected to be good and this will benefit the performance of all competitors. I wish all of them the best of luck!”
