New Concussion/Injury Protocol released

The ISC Technical & Safety Committee, following years of development under Chairman Liam McNulty of Ireland, created a rapid assessment protocol for potential concussion and other skydiving injuries.

The Concussion/Injury Protocol was presented to and approved by the FAI Medico-physiological Commission (CIMP), with the recommendation to begin using it. The ISC Plenary met and requested the FAI Legal Advisors review the Injury Protocol, and this was successfully completed. The ISC issued an IBD on 15 July, 2024 to immediately implement the protocol for the remaining three CAT 1 events in 2024.

The Concussion/Injury Protocol begins with a simple screening assessment for a potentially injured competitor. Only if the competitor received a positive screening, will they be evaluated by a licensed medical doctor to determine if they can safely return to competition. This important process creates a new level of safety for any injured competitor as well as others involved with them in the same event.
