From 27 July to 4 August 2024, the French-German International Balloon Camp was held in Lorraine, in the Eastern region of France close to Sion, the 'City of Landscapes'. Forty-two people participated including 36 French and German youngsters.

During this exciting and enriching week, organised as part of the Franco-German program dedicated to hot air ballooning, we explored a variety of captivating activities. On most mornings during the camp, hot air balloon flights allowed us to marvel at breathtaking landscapes while honing our meteorology skills and learning about the different components of a hot air balloon.

Aside from the ballooning, a hike on the Hill of Sion provided a refreshing escape into nature, combining physical effort with stunning views. An afternoon at the lake was an opportunity to relax and bond through outdoor games. Additionally, Franco-German linguistic activities helped us strengthen our connections while expanding our cultural and language skills. The most athletic participants took on the challenge of morning runs after the flights, channeling their energy into personal achievements.

We created original and creative activities in preparation for the French Astronomy Association's “La Nuit des Étoiles” (Night of the Stars) in which participants discovered/rediscovered the summer sky at night. When the day arrived, we proudly hosted our stand, sharing our discoveries and creations with the public.

During free time, ping-pong became a favourite pastime, bringing laughter and friendly competition to the group. This unforgettable week blended adventure, learning, sports, and intercultural exchange, leaving everyone with wonderful memories centered around hot air ballooning and Franco-German friendship.
