Between May and July 2024, six qualifying FAI Sailplane Grand Prix events took place in Chile, Norway, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and France. Tasks were successfully completed in all six despite some difficult weather conditions. Congratulations to the 12 qualifying pilots who will shortly receive their invitations to compete in the 12th final at St Auban, France scheduled for 24-30 August 2025.

Still to come in 2025

Still to take place are four qualifying events in the 12th series, the next event being at Gawler in Australia in January 2025 followed by the USA event in March 2025 to be held at Seminole Lake in Florida. These and the two European events in Holland and Poland are very popular and we are looking forward to some great exciting racing.

The 2025 final at St Auban will incorporate live on-board cameras and live pilot commentary, further developing the possibilities for race fans to enjoy the remarkable experience of racing purely on solar energy.

Adelaide Soaring Club at Gawler sits at the southern end of the Barossa wine region and has ample accommodation in the town of Gawler and local area. A large caravan park in Gawler has air-conditioned units available to hire, and accommodation and onsite camping are also available at the Gawler airfield.

Looking ahead to series 13 in 2026

The FAI Sailplane Grand team is preparing the program and rules for the 13th FAI Sailplane Grand Prix series which will be held in 2026, culminating in the 13th final to be held in 2027. The bidding process for qualifying events will take place in 2025 with the final dates for bids being the 30th of September.

Bids for FAI Sailplane Grand Prix Final Series 13

The closing date for bids to host the final of the13th series is the 31st January 2025, the final will be held in 2027 or possibly in January 2028 if in the southern hemisphere. The earlier bid deadline for the final is to allow longer preparation time for the host to find financial support.

The FAI Sailplane Grand Prix final is a unique sporting event with live racing being followed by thousands of sailplane racing fans. Previous FAI Sailplane Grand Prix finals over the last 10 years have developed new and exciting ways to showcase sailplane racing at its most exciting.
