FAI Sailplane Grand Prix News release

The South African Sailplane Grand Prix 2015 is now taking place at Worcester in the Cape Mountains in Cape Province.

Sunday January the 4th saw the first race of this very competitive event which was marked by a fantastic result for Uli Schwenck from Germany beating local pilot Laurens Goudriaan by only 2 seconds after 712 Kilometers of racing. The winning speed was 167.3kph proving this very little known region of South Africa to be a great location for sailplane racing.

Past World Champion Holger Karow from Germany came a close third only 12 seconds after Uli with 166.2 kph and ex World Champion John Coutts from New Zealand finishing close behind Holger at 166.6kph.

The competition has all the ingredients for a great fight between the top German and South African pilots with John Coutts from New Zealand pushing for a place at the top of the results.
