China and Qatar dominate the 2024 FAI World Championships in Style and Accuracy and Canopy Formation

Chinese and Qatari skydivers dominated the 2024 FAI World Championships in Style and Accuracy and Canopy Formation, securing most of the top podium positions.

Three world championships made up this large-scale international event in Prostejov, Czechia, which ran from 31 August - 6 September 2024:

In the morning of Friday 6 September, the FAI Officials and some Competitors visited Prostejov Town Hall, a beautiful old building from 1914. The Mayor of Prostejov, Frantishek Jura, and the Deputy Mayor, Milosh Sklenka, welcomed the visitors, who were brought on a tour of the building. The Deputy Mayor, Milosh Sklenka, is a skydiver and a cameraman and is very active at the Jump Tandem dropzone, the host for these World Championships.

The Awards Ceremony and closing banquet took place in the evening, at the Hotel Tennis Club in the town.  It was a joyous occasion, with the athletes resplendent in their countries’ colours.  After speeches, the winners were called to the podium and presented with the trophies and medals, gold, silver and bronze.  China, Qatar and Germany featured, with China being predominant in Style and Accuracy events and Qatar in Canopy Formation.

The evening drew to a close with a party, which went on into the early hours of the morning. This ended a remarkable event, one in which there were not any injuries or malfunctions/cutaways.

FAI Controller Liam McNulty said:

A huge 'Thank You' to Martin Dlouhý and his great team, whose superb organisation and ability gave FAI and the FAI Skydiving Commission, and of course the participating parachutists, a truly excellent and memorable competition. A great event, held at a great venue, one to which Competitors would hope to return at an early date.

38th FAI World Style and Accuracy Landing Championships

In these Accuracy and Style competitions, China's female skydivers absolutely dominated, just like in the 46th CISM World Military Parachuting Championships earlier this year. These remarkable women gained gold, silver and bronze medals across the board: YaPing Xin gaining two golds and a silver, QiuLi Han gaining one gold, YiYao Li taking two silvers and a bronze, and YuTing Wang coming away with two bronzes. YiYao and Yu Ting are junior competitors so their performance is all the more remarkable.

In the Male Accuracy, Germany's Stefan Wiesner - who also performed exceptionally well in the CISM accuracy landing - managed to grab the Male Individual Accuracy Landing world champion title, with Czechia's Hynek Tabor and France's Thomas Jeannerot going to a tie break to decide who won silver and bronze medals. Stefan also took the Style and Accuracy Overall title, with China's Ming Yu Jia taking silver and Stefan's teammate Robin Griesheimer in bronze position. In Individual Style the Chinese trio of RuiLong Yu, GaoQi Wei and ZiYue Du showed the telephoto camera operators how it's done, taking gold, silver and bronze, respectively.

In the Team Accuracy, China's females were yet again clear winners, but things were not so evident among the men, whose results were decided on a tie-break between Qatar, Germany and France (with Czechia only just behind). Qatar gained the advantage with Germany and France then performing in another tie break round to finalise the rankings.
